Goodbye my friend

R.I.P. Matt Davis, a man who changed lives as well as the bike scene

In case you hadn't heard, Matt Davis – the co-founder of DicE Magazine and probably coolest bloke I've ever met – succumbed to his battle with cancer a couple of weeks ago at home in Los Angeles.

I felt moved to write of my friendship with Matt on the GK Instagram feed when I heard the devastating news and have also written a tribute to him which will appear in print soon.

Although I had been in touch with him during his gruelling treatment and fight against his disease over 18 months, I hadn't seen him since he left London to move back to his home with Tina in LA last year. But our last meeting was memorable; we spent the day together and had lunch by the Thames, talking amongst other things about our London childhoods, separated by a few miles.

He was an inspiring man; kind, knowledgable and generous. Talented too. And one of those people who doesn't wait for life to happen to them; he was always out in the world, seeking the very best it had to offer.

My sincere condolences go to Dean, Tina, Rosie, all his family and many, many friends. I have never met a more loved man, nor one who will be so profoundly missed.

I only met Matt a few times, but he was a real good person, a great loss to this life of ours! Ride in peace Matt.
