Bad day for Harley-Davidson

Is this the end for the US brand I love most?

Donald Trump is an inward-looking man; he doesn't seem to care much for anything that goes on beyond his own country's borders. And he didn't seem to stop and think when he slapped a 25% tariff on steel and aluminium imports from Europe; today, the EU has retaliated and slapped back... with a 25% levy on the import of many great American goods. Including Harley-Davidsons.

Harley looks to be in trouble; quarterly profits were down 40% in October, and its share price has dropped 13% this year. A third of its sales are overseas... and this new EU tariff is absolutely the last thing it needs.

Seems such a strange scenario, when Trump is supposedly the champion of US manufacturing and blue collar values. His idiocy may yet cause the demise of one of the USA's greatest and longest-established brands.

I certainly hope not. And H-D have wangled their way out of tight spots before. I really hope they survive this one.

Spot on Guy! I couldn't have said it better. I loved the sticker in your latest issue and the "67 FLH will not be sold, period! I couldn't pull the trigger. I just spent two weeks riding the Catskills and the Hudson River Valley on a friends '69 FLH. Oh. Joy! Glad your spending time with the Panhead.
